The Spring 2020 Conference at College of San Mateo will offer informative, timely, and relevant training. Enjoy a couple of days of learning, mingling, training (CEs), collaborating, and gaining skills. Stay for the weekend and enjoy the nearby sights of San Francisco.

Threat Assessment: Understanding Risk Factors, Best Practices in Conducting Interviews and Providing Support, and Promoting Knowledge of Symbols, Memes
and Ideology Associated with Violence
 (2.5 CEs) 
​Participants will be able to:
  • Identify 2 warning signs for students at risk for violence.
  • Define and recognize signs of "leakage."
  • Understand the difference between the following terms: "sociopathic," "antisocial" and psychopathic.
  • List two symbols associated with the "alt-right."
  • List the three ways a person can communicate a threat for violence.
  • Explain the difference between a direct and indirect threat.

Working Toward Common Goals: Navigating CMIA, FERPA, HIPAA while Mitigating Risks of Campus Violence (2 CEs)  
Participants will be able to:
  • Identify two relevant intersections of FERPA and HIPAA as they relate to an ongoing threat assessment case in a higher education setting.
  • Demonstrate one to two ways in which timely communication can assist with goal-directed resolution for all parties involved.
  • Identify two ways in which communication tools can be used to mitigate fear management and reputational risk to their institution.
  • Demonstrate two lessons learned in communicating to relevant stakeholders within higher education by applying the updated CMIA/ FERPA/HIPAA guidance to their campus events.

Dr. Katherine Taylor, Psy.D., MPH
Using Mental Health Apps to Enhance Clinical Care (1 CE)  
Participants will be able to:
  • Describe the two ways in which using mobile apps as adjunctive tools can enhance mental health care for students and families.
  • Demonstrate two effective ways to introduce apps and encourage use among clients. 
  • Discuss two of the challenges of technological integration into care and potential ways to address these challenges in this treatment setting.

*MHWA is a CE provider approved by the California Psychological Association to provide continuing professional education for psychologists. The Board of Behavioral Sciences recognizes CE credit from CPA approved providers for LCSWs, MFTs, LEPs, and LPCCs. MHWA’s CE programs meet the California Board of Nursing’s requirements for acceptable continuing education for BRN licensees. MHWA maintains responsibility for this program and its content.

Conference refund
After registering, if you cannot attend the meeting, notify Humberto Hernandez for a CE refund (prior to 10/16 or credit for a subsequent training).

Attendance policy
Those who attend full training and complete the appropriate evaluation form will receive CE credits. Those arriving more than 15 minutes after the start time or leaving before the training is completed will not receive CE credits.
