Spring 2018 Conference

Santa Rosa Junior College

Supporting our students, colleagues, and ourselves

The Spring Conference at Santa Rosa Junior College will support a community highly affected by the recent California fires. The conference is FREE to attend. Enjoy a couple of days of learning, mingling, training (CEs), collaborating, and gaining self-care skills. Make plans to arrive early, stay longer and enjoy the sights, wine tasting, outdoor activities, and all that Sonoma County has to offer.

CE Trainings
Gina Biegel, LMFT: Taking in the Good: Mindfulness for Teens and Young Adults (1.5 credits) 
After this training participants will be able to:
  • Identify how to help teens and young adults turn positive experiences into lasting resources for safety, satisfaction, and connection
  • Identify recent advances in positive neuroplasticity that cultivate the four levels of self‐care for clients

  • Apply appropriate teaching techniques to teens and young adults to shift from reacting impulsively to responding mindfully to stress 

ValJeán Dale, LMFT: The Healing Advocate and Compassion Fatigue (1.5 credits)
After this training participants will be able to:
  • Analyze general factors and list 3 ways which lead to compassion fatigue in your work
  • Identify 3 coping strategies that you can use to increase your resilience
  • Identify 3 ways to connect with colleagues to share and discuss experience and useful strategies
  • List 3 ways to find support for yourself and/or give support to colleagues
  • Describe how self-care and ethical practice are interconnected 

Dr. Gerald Amada, PhD: Mental Health & Student Conduct: Lessons from Thirty Years on Campus (3 credits)
​After this training participants will be able to:
  • ​Utilize their college’s Code of Conduct to guide the process of resolving disruptive incidents
  • Establish clear and safe guidelines for handling on-campus psychiatric emergencies
  • Discern the utility of letters from outside therapists and psychiatrists regarding the readiness of suspended students to return
  • Expand their use of extramural “outreach” activities with faculty to develop alliances supportive of students’ mental health needs
  • Effectively and appropriately respond to student victims of sexual assault

INFORMATION

​*MHWA is a CE provider approved by the California Psychological Association to provide continuing professional education for psychologists. The Board of Behavioral Sciences recognizes CE credit from CPA approved providers for LCSWs, MFTs, LEPs, and LPCCs. MHWA’s CE programs meet the California Board of Nursing’s requirements for acceptable continuing education for BRN licensees.  MHWA maintains responsibility for this program and its content.

Conference refund
After registering, if you cannot attend the meeting, notify Humberto Hernandez for a CE refund (prior to 4/18 or credit for a subsequent training).

Attendance policy
Those who attend full training and complete the appropriate evaluation form will receive CE credits. Those arriving more than 15 minutes after the start time or leaving before the training is completed will not receive CE credits.
